GOOD NEWS IN THE RENEWABLE ENERGY SECTOR!

REPowerEU: Commission steps up the green transition away from Russian gas by accelerating renewables permitting

The European Commission has proposed a new temporary emergency regulation to accelerate the deployment of renewable energy sources. Together with diversifying our supplies and saving energy, deploying more renewable energy is part of the EU's plan to end our dependence on Russian fossil fuels. Renewables reduce the EU's demand for fossil fuels in the power, heating and cooling, industry and transport sectors, both in the short term and for the future. Thanks to their low operational costs, a larger share of renewable energy sources in the EU's energy system can help to reduce energy bills.
The ongoing energy crisis requires immediate and targeted action to speed up the REPowerEU Plan. On 20 and 21 October 2022, the European Council called for a fast-tracking of permitting procedures to accelerate the rollout of renewables. REPowerEU already proposed measures to address the lengthy and complex administrative procedures that are an obstacle to the speed and scale of investment in renewables and related infrastructure. However, the situation on the energy markets has worsened since then, prompting the need for urgent measures. This is why the Commission is proposing new action in the form of a Council Regulation based on Article 122 of the Treaty.
Today's proposal complements previous emergency measures to tackle the exceptional situation on the energy markets and to accelerate the clean energy transition. It will apply for one year, covering the time needed for the adoption and transposition of the Renewable Energy Directive, currently discussed by the co-legislators, in all Member States. It targets specific technologies and types of projects which have the highest potential for quick deployment and the least impact on the environment, contributing to our energy security in the face of Russia's invasion of Ukraine and weaponisation of its energy supplies.

IFAT 2020 is canceled,

next IFAT: May 30–June 3, 2022

The COVID-19 pandemic has a lot of consequences —also on the global environmental technology industry. In consultation with the Executive Board of the Exhibitors’ Advisory Board and the conceptual partners of IFAT, Messe München conducted a survey among the IFAT exhibitors, revealing that most respondents are against holding IFAT from September 7–11, 2020. Hence, IFAT at the planned time would be unacceptable—not only for Messe München but also for the trade fair participants. In addition, according to the latest announcements, major events must not be held until the end of August.

DMT International continues to provide technical support for customers amidst the COVID-19 pandemic

On March 11th, the World Health Organization declared the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus a pandemic.Since then governments have been struggling to flatten the curve either with strict limits or less restrictive measure and finding the right balance. “It has been challenging,” Huberts says, but we have found creative and innovative ways to continue to offer technical support and commission projects. It enabled us to be able to meet gas to grid deadlines on projects globally. Our main offices in Joure, the Netherlands and Portland, Oregon, USA have showed that DMT is quick to adapt to this extraordinary situation and have met our customers’ priorities.
The pandemic is turning out to be a roller coaster ride and the COVID-19 virus has the world in his grip but DMT International has continued to win projects in both Europe and the United States. “We are able to support and service our customers globally and this pandemic has given us the opportunity to investigate different ways to serve and assist them”, Stephen McCulluch, Business Director UK & Eire says.

Biogas and biomethane - the products of efficient and sustainable use of resources

See at: european-biogas.eu/about-us/vision-mission/

Anaerobic Digestion (AD) makes the best use of organic materials by producing biogas for the generation of renewable heat, electricity, fuel and fertilizer while closing the nutrients cycle and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Thermal gasification is a complementary technology to anaerobic digestion and greatly amplifies the potential of renewable energy in the form of heat, electricity and vehicle fuel.

EBA's strategic vision - EU biogas and biomethane potential

2020 - Biogas is a versatile energy source and the EBA goal is that the fuel will contribute at least 1.5% of the EU's primary energy mix corresponding to about 5% of the EU's natural gas consumption (in energy equivalent terms).

2030 - EBA believes that there is a realistic overall potential for biogas production from anaerobic digestion of at least 30 billion m3/year. Thermal biomass gasification is developing rapidly and, with the right support, is capable of contributing substantial volumes of syngas and biomethane. Taken together, a conservative estimate for the total production of biomethane is 50 billion m3 per year. With the right policies in place, by 2030, the industry could produce renewable energy equivalent to approximately 10% of the EU's current natural gas consumption, for use for electricity generation, heating/cooling, and as a transportation fuel.

BREAKING NEWS: APPOINTMENTS
EBA elects Coen Meijers as an executive board member
After last week’s election to the company advisory board, DMT’s Manager Business Development Coen Meijers was also elected member of the executive board of the European Biogas Association (EBA). The EBA represents 7.000 stakeholders in the biogas industry, promotes a circular economy at the European level and believes biomethane and other renewable gases are an important cornerstone of a carbon-neutral economy. This is perfectly aligned with Coen’s and DMT’s mission to build a green energy infrastructure.

WBA appoints DMT’s Francois Huberts council member

Francois Huberts, Global Sales & Marketing Director at DMT Environmental Technology,

has been appointed as a council member of the World Biogas Association.

The world biogas association has been established in 2016 to support the development of the biogas industry globally. Since then, it has grown significantly and has established close relationships with international bodies including the UNFCCC, CACC, UNEP, and the C40 Cities network.

Francois says: “I’m very proud to be part of the WBA council and support the development of the biogas industry globally.” The goal of the council is to bring global industry leaders together and increase recognition to integrate biogas in the global economy. A goal that perfectly matched DMT’s mission to contribute to a sustainable future, without concessions to prosperity.

Roadshow of CNG buses in the biggest cities of Hungary

The campaign promotes public transport driving on CNG in the biggest cities in Hungary. The campaign is a big success and people in these cities are very enthusiastic about the benefits. The bus is quiet and the emission is much cleaner, eventually resulting in reduced smog. In the future, they switch use Bio-CNG. Making it not only green and clean but also contributing to a sustainable future.

The number of CNG fuel stations is increasing in Hungary too.

One of the sponsors of this conference was  DMT Environmental Technology, Mr.Erwin Dirkse made a very successful presentation about using biomethane as a green alternative to fuel for transportation.
